Nature Heals

We are intimately intertwined with nature. We are in fact, nature.

Yet we tend to override ourselves just like we override our planet, forsaking the magnificent, raw, realness that exists at our depths.

All the ways we cover over our wild truth and remove ourselves from nature costs us dearly. We consume to cope, and we feel insatiable because we haven’t tended to the gaping hole inside = disconnection from our wild nature, our soul selves, and how we fit into the larger natural world.

Today is mental health awareness day. Our mental health is directly impacted by all the ways we’ve individuality and collective severed our connection to our deep wild roots.

As a mental health professional I know that there are countless ways to heal through attention, expression and movement. The relationships we have with others can be incredibly nourishing and growth inducing. And professional help can be game changing on the path of reclaiming wholeness.

And still, I find the biggest most accessible mental health stabilizer and maintainer is movement and nature. For me it’s even better if it’s movement 𝒾𝓃 nature.

Consider your relationship to the earth itself. Think about all the wild places you love. Close your eyes + recall the last time you were there, tune in to how those spaces and places 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍.

Earth is a teacher of slowing down, of trusting the cycle of things, of diversity + abundance, of collaboration + co-creativity. Of soul pace.

Research shows time in nature improves mood, strengthens cognitive functions, amplifies joy, + enhances overall well-being. Nature is the great co-regulator of our nervous system. Taking the time to get in tune with nature everyday can be a tremendous antidote to the countless stressors we face.

This picture was taken after my morning workout. I found this space in the center of these tall trees and I was awed by the simple magnificence of the natural world.

If I could suggest one thing to do now, today, go outside. Breathe deep. Feel the earth. Look at the sky. Appreciate trees. 𝓵𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓷 to the wild rhythms around you. Let it be an act of loving and feeling yourself more deeply and completely.
